1. What type of the charter vessel should I choose?
Selection of the vessel depends on your needs, wishes and preferences. There are four types of vessels available for charter in Croatia: sailboats, catamarans, gulets and motor yachts.
Understanding what each particular vessel type is offering is very important to choose the right vessel for Your holidays.
Sailboats are the most popular boats for charter and are suitable for family holidays as well as for an active vacation. Operating a sailboat requires skill and years of experience. Sailboats are slower than motor boats and are an excellent choice for those who have lots of time to explore the Croatian coastline and its islands.
If you love sailing and You find comfort, spaciousness and stability of the vessel on the sea the most important things during your holidays then the catamaran charter is the right choice for you.
If you like more the power of engine rather than the power of the wind You should rent motor yacht. Motor yachts are the ideal choice for those who love luxury, speed, power and want to get quickly to a selected destination.
Gulets are cruise crewed vessels and are ideal choice for those who want to enjoy all the benefits of the Croatian coast without thinking about preparing the meals or taking care about the boat. Those wooden sailing boats offer perfect combination of excitement that offers sailing and the comfort of large cruise ships.
2. Sailboat or a catamaran?
The choice depends on personal needs and ambitions. Since catamarans are twice wider than sailing boats that way are offering much more space and comfort. Saloon, cabins and toilets are much bigger e more spacoious than on a sailing boat. Catamarans are a very good option for those who do not have much experience in sailing because they are stable and do not lean too much, maximum 5 degrees. The stability of the catamaran is very important for people suffering from seasickness. With a shallow draft access to most of the bays is very simple with a catamaran.
Catamarans are generally more expensive than sailing boats.
Sailboats have a much better sailing characteristics and the real lovers of sailing will certainly choose a sailboat rather than a catamaran.
3. Should i book a professional skipper?
There is no need to hire a professional skipper if you posses the necessary permissions and experience in operating the sailboat.
4. Who pays for the skipper’s salary and food?
If you will be needing a skipper in this case you should pay to him from 150 to 200 € per day depending on the type and the size of the vessel. You are also responsible to provide food for him, whether preparing meals on board or eating in the restaurant.
5. Where will the skipper sleep?
It is recommended that the skipper has his own cabin so that he and his guests can enjoy their privacy. Skipper can agree with the guests that he will sleep in the saloon. However, we strongly recommend to our guests to provide for the skipper accommodation in his own cabin because he is responsible for the navigation and the safety of all passengers on board, and he should be rested. In addition, guests will have more comfort and saloon available.
6. Which licenses I need to posses to charter a boat?
In order to operate a sailing or motor yacht on your own you need to have a valid sailing license accepted by the Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and a certificate of competency to operate a radio station (VHF certificate).
7. What does the charter price include?
The rental price reffers to charter a boat in the period of 7 or 14 days no matter how many people will be on board (the number of passengers on board is always limited, depending on the size of the boat). Boat price includes a 7 or 14 days boat rental, all the navigational and safety equipment on board, tender and bed linen.
Mandatory extras that are to be paid on arrival at the base and that are not included in the rental price are final cleaning, tourist tax and security deposit is refundable.
8. Check in/out time?
Embarkation on the boat is possible on Saturday between 17.00 and 18.00 p.m.
It takes a few hours to make the boat ready for new guests, the boat should be completely cleaned inside and outside and if necessary certain technical intervention is to be done. However, if the boat will be ready earlier, an earlier embarkation would also be possible (around 14.00 to 15.00 p.m.)
You should disembark from the boat on the next Saturday until 9 a.m. Some charter companies require the return of the vessel to the base on Friday afternoon so that check out the procedure could be done on time. After the check out procedures is done guests have the right to sleep on the boat and should disembark Saturday morning till 9.00 a.m.
9. Are the boat and crew insured?
Yes, all boats available for charter in our offer are fully casco insured. The crew is also secured against possible accidents.
10. Is it possible to charter a boat for a short period of only few days?
It is possible to charter a boat for a short period of just a few days mainly during the low season.
The usual rental period is 7 days from Saturday to Saturday.
11. What if we bring children on board?
If you will be bringing children on board it is important to bear in mind that you have the proper sized lifejackets on board. If you have babies and small children, we recommend you to set up a safety net to the boat.
12. What should we take with us on sailing?
- Proper clothing and footwear (light clothing and footwear, hat, swimsuit)
- personal items (sunglasses, spare contact lenses if worn, mask, fins)
- Personal Hygiene (suntan lotion high protection factor, sunscreen to protect against insect bites …)
- Personal documents (identity card, passport, sailing permit, voucher)
- First aid kit and medications (anti-nausea, high fever and allergies)
13. Are towels included in the price?
Towels are generally not included in the price. If towels are not included in the rental price they can be rented on arrival at the base at a cost of 5 EUR / set (1 large and 1 small towel). Beach towels are not included in the price, and you need to take with you or you can hire or buy them upon arrival.
14. Do I need to posses a diving permit?
According to Croatian law diving is strictly prohibited unless you have a valid diving license issued by the Croatian Diving Association. You can request a permission for diving in Croatia if you have a license that was issued by a recognized international diving associations (IDD, UDI, CMAS, MDEA, PADI …).
15. Do I need to have a fishing permit?
If during Your sailing holidays you want to engage in fishing activities, please keep in mind that Croatian law requires a valid fishing permit.
The license is available in all sport-fishing societies along the Adriatic coast and for obtaining a permit You must present your identity card or passport.
Fishing is prohibited in the area of national parks and nature parks.
16. What is the price of the berth in the marina?
The price of the berth in the marina depends on the length of the boat. Prices of the berths may vary in different marinas along the Adriatic coast and it is determined by the price list for the current year.
Please keep in mind that the price of the marina fee for the catamaran is twice as high compared to the sailboat of the same length More information about marinas in Croatia.
For example, the average price of the berth for a boat of 45 feet approximatelly 70 eur.
17. Paying with euros in Croatia?
From 2023 Croatia is part of eurozone and Euro is offical currency in Croatia.
18. Where can I get wheather forcast?
You can get wheather forcast on the reception of each marina in Croatia. During the summer months You can follow the forecast on the specific VHF channels in English several times a day.
19. Can I take small household appliances on board?
Of course you can take small household appliances such as hair dryer with You on board because the boats have shore coastal electrical grid but You need to be rational with their use. It is important to remember that the voltage of electricity from 220 V is only possible to have while you are in the marina. Only Yachts with generator have the voltage of 220 V and during the sailing.
20. Can I use the batery charger for my cell phone on the boat?
Chargers for mobile phone can be used over a standard 220V outlet when you’re on a coastal power grid. When you are at sea You can use charger for cars that can be turned on 12V cigarette lighter.
21. Can I get a mobile signal on the sea?
Most of the Adriatic Sea is covered with mobile phone signal.
22. Where can I park my car upon arrival?
All nautical marinas in Croatia have secured parking places for its guests.
Parking is not free of charge and it is to be paid cca. 150 € per week.
23. Where can I do the provisioning for the boat?
All necessary supplies can be purchased in many supermarkets that are located near marina or in smaller markets within the marina.
24. Can I order provisions in advance?
Yes, you can place an order in advance and the marina staff will do provisioning for You and bring the food on the boat prior to your arrival.
25. Can I bring my dog on board?
Generally it is not allowed to keep pets (dogs, cats, birds and the like) on the board, except in cases where charter contract allows it.
If you are allowed to bring your pet on board keep in mind that in this case you will have to pay for the double cleaning of the vessel.
26. What additional service may I request that are connected with chartering a boat?
