ABOUT SIBENIK

Sibenik is One of the biggest town in Dalmatia, Croatia’s southern region,  and a political, educational, transport, as well as tourist center of its Sibenik- Knin County. Šibenik has an interesting and turbulent History. First of all, unlike other coastal towns, founded by the Greeks or Romans, Šibenik is the only town founded, and established by the Croats. Kresimir’s City, as it was, and is often called, because Sibenik was a seat, of the Croatian king Petar Kresimir the IV. Turbulent past of the city came later in the 12th century, when it became a part of Venice, Hungary, Byzantine empire, and in the more recent past 18th and 19th century, a part of Habsburg monarchy.

Today Sibenik stands as a proud Croatian City, with beautiful forts, Cathedrals, and numerous other sights.  For a tourist, there’s a million things to do here: great Dalmatian food, relaxing music, and above all sightseeing. One of the most famous sights in Šibenik is the St. James Cathedral, listed on the Unesco heritage list. This beautiful building was built during both Gothic period and the renaissance, so it has the characteristics of both. Other sights include the fort od St. Nicholas located in the city’s port, and other.
